While your point is correct regarding positives and negatives it is
irrelevant to my point which remains quite correct.

If one can avoid service the choosing not to avoid service is an
affirmative act of volunteering, and if instead one chooses to go ahead and
avoid service as allowed by law then they are choosing not to do that which
is necessary to volunteer.  They are choosing not to volunteer.  Morally
they are absolutely no different than young people today who see the
country at war and choose not to serve.
