I am the FAQ maintainer. The current document has been revised by me many
times over the past four years. I have no legal training and cannot
provide specific answers about copyright matters.
The part of the FAQ that discusses distribution of copyrighted materials
via the Internet without permission of the owners is meant to address the
practice of downloading entire movies, whole scripts, complete CDs, etc.
These are the types of requests we frequently receive, and the material is
usually available through sanctioned, official sources. You'll note that I
also wrote that the Python London office has asked us to direct people to
the published material.
Certainly the regulations and practices differ may differ depending on
intended purpose and geographical location. I am aware that exceptions are
made for brief quotes, publicity photos, personal or non-profit use, and
other things -- again, I cannot provide legal advice on a case by case
basis.
