Hello all,
Last night right after seeing the ever popular Alex tape, I heard a
chirp, chirp. I first thought that it was a parolete that makes similar
sounds. It turned out to be that one of the two Sun conure eggs that I had in
a Lyon Roll-x Incubator had hatched. I allmost DIED. I did'nt expect it to
hatch until the 2nd or 3rd. Luckyly I was there to turn off the egg turner.
Very healthy chick, went around the incubator in less than a minute.
I immidiately turned on the Thief of Hearts brooder (98 Deg). I placed the
chick in a small dish lined with toilet paper and left him in the incubator.
This was at 11:00 PM. At around 2:00AM I gave him two drops of warm filtered
water. Then a 4:00AM, I mixed in a bit of Exact. Since this was a bit
premature, I did not have any Pediolyte. Next time, I'll be ready.
Note: I initially removed the eggs because 2 out of four had broken and lost
their humidity before I could save them. I appeared that the hel lifted a
piece of the wire lining the inside of the nest. I was at about 3/8 of an
inch from the botom. When the eggs touched the wall, they were punctured.
This being my first time with a day old chick, did I do anything wrong ?
Any comments or advice will be appreciated. I considered putting the chick
under the hen, but she just laid an egg the day before yesterday, and has
another one on the way. I was going to end up handfeeding anyways. Ohh,
the chick has a bit of swelling on the back of the neck, is this common ?
