From: "Robert G Lewis"
I had a cousin who was offered a less than honorable discharge or duty on
South Korea on the DMZ. He took the discharge and joined the National Guard
in some sort of Special Forces type unit which he loved. He was not exactly
cut out for a line unit, too head strong way and independent. A
very strange character to say the least.
My father barely missed being in Korea. He had joined the AF in 50 or 51
and went to Radio training. They asked for volunteers to become radio
instructors. He did not volunteer and wound up in Germany. Those who
volunteered to become radio instructions wound up in South Korea during the
fighting. My father got a nice job with Air Force Security monitoring
Russian Military broadcasts. Had combat broken out in Europe he would have
been evacuated before women and children.
