Subject: Access & Attitudes
CE Disabled Services
Hello all,
Again Gregg Trapp has guided us to a very important issue. It is very
important
what issues we chose to advocate for and of equal importance is the methods
that
we use to accomplish these goals. Confrontational, in your face, attitudes
are
seen in the media regularly. What is not seen is the negative responses of
Mr.
and Mrs John Q Public in the living rooms across america. The attitudes and
good will of such people are essential to our gaining access and true
equality
in society. Our Organization has long focused its efforts on working with
other
groups, organizations and agencies to achieve our access goals. Example:
our
library is currently accessible in the sense that I can read any book,
magazine
or other print material with the aid of the libraries new reading machine. I
can
even transfer the material read to computer disk for use at home. We are
working with local Civic organizations to raise the funds to purchase more
reading machines so they will be available to check out and take home with
the
books to be read. We are also hoping to get the County Law Library included
in
this project. Advocacy can take many forms. How we accomplish our goals also
can take many forms and in doing so, we must be ever vigilant to the
attitudes
of the media, governmental officials, those in the business community and the
public.
