RP>Second, the idea that a failed impeachment process would result in
RP>slaughter of Republicans at the poles is simply unwarranted fear. D
RP>you honestly think that had Nixon remained in office the DemonRats
RP>would've been the victims of such a reaction?
MA> I don't believe we'll actually see impeachment proceedings. With
MA>an atmosphere present that many people seem to feel some groups have a
MA>vendetta going against Clinton, conservatives in Congress will be
MA>reluctant to pursue such charges unless the evidence is indisputable
MA>and impeachment is the clear result of the proceedings. If the
MA>evidence, as it appears now it will be, becomes indisputable, I thinl
MA>Clinton will simply resign under pressure from his own supporters.
MA> We have to keep one thing in mind. He is holding support from his
MA>own camp only because he is adamently refusing to admit culpability.
MA>He has told his staff and supporters that the allegations are totally
MA>untrue. If, as I suspect it will, it turns out he is lying to them and
MA>they suddenly realize they've been had, he's going to lose everything
MA>all at once. At best he will have a half dozen hard core advisors left
MA>who are as tied up in the scandal as he is. The remainder, like
MA>Panetta, will demand his head on a platter.
MA> I really believe at that point he will have no choice left but to
MA>resign and impeachment will never become a necessity.
Right now it's doubtful that he'll lose even another night's sleep, much
less their support. Judge Wright gave what I consider one of the most
ridiculous rulings to come down the pike in some time. Lewinsky and her
role in the White House affairs (read that as Affairs of State) is OUT of
the Jones trial. So is Slick's deposition as it relates to her.
However, I just had a thought. IF the attorneys for Jones could get Dufus
to state under oath he never had an affair in the White House,or that he
never abused his official position to entice a woman to have sex or oral
"relations" with him, could they call Lewinsky for no other reason than to
impeach (love that word) Clinton's credibility?
The thrust (no pun here) of the Jones lawsuit is that Clinton routinely and
repeatedly used his position as Governor of Arkansas to entice women to
have relations with him. That he would use State Troopers to procure for
him "eligible women". If they can show that this behavior has continued
into the Presidency, and he denies it, then I believe they can back door
her testimony into the trial. After all, the Willey affair is still
admissible.
The premise that I believe the judge used was that the affair between
Clinton and Lewinsky was long standing and not a one time encounter as was
in the case with Jones and Willey.
Time will tell.
