Hi Eric

[Thus spake Eric Ooms unto All:]

EO> I'm looking for a great modem at a reasonable price and the NetComm
EO> Smartmodem 288 seems to be at the top of my list. From tests the 288D
EO> did very well, can I expect the 288 to perform as well? Can someone
EO> confirm if the 288 has voice capabilities? How the hell does a flash
EO> rom work. I know you get a file of BBS' or the net or something but how
EO> does the modem get the info and how can it upgrade itself to 33.6?????
 EO>
EO> What are pple's overall views towards the 288?
 EO>
EO> Would an 8 bit processor and data pump be any good with 33.6/V.34+ ?
 EO>
EO> While we are on the subject. Can anyone recommend a good modem that
EO> has 33.6 or a free/cheap upgrade, 16 bit if they think 8 bit is no good
EO> (from previous question) with full faxing capabilities?

Why not just buy a USR Courier? They're going for under $500 these days
and its 33.6k is tried and tested. Just don't buy the Courier if you
want Class 2 faxing as the Courier only does Class 1 and Class 2.0
faxing.
