When you use copy and paste you are using the clipboard. When you copy
something it is stored in the clipboard. then when you paste you paste
the contents of the clipboard. The print screen key copies the
complete screen to the clipboard. You can then paste it in to an
application just like you would paste any other item.

Do you do a lot of coping and pasting? If you do you might like a
utility I use called classic clipboard. You can paste the last 9 items
you copied and it also has cubby holes to store clips you want to keep
and use on a regular basis.

In Win3.1 and DOS 6.x if I remember correctly the print screen key did
 print on the printer.
