wb> I just picked up a modem used...but there is a problem. I have
wb> no idea what brand it is or how fast it is. It connects at
wb> 28.8, and 31.2. It is a plug 'n play modem but when windows
wb> detects it it just gives me this as the name: "F=1128HV/T1 V34+"
wb> and windows does not have a driver for it. So I am forced to
wb> use the 'standard 28.8' option when installing it. If I could
wb> find the manufacturer somehow I could get the drivers off the
wb> net. Does anyone know how I might go about doing this? I looked
wb> all over the modem itself, and there is nothing to identify it,
wb> however, the #'s I stated earlier are also on the modem itself.
Modems don't have "drivers". All a modem requires is a proper
configuration string, and if your modem is connecting at 31,200 then
without a doubt the string defined as "standard 28.8" is all you
need.
There are no "magic" modem commands, and no "magic" configuration
strings - and the config in general will not cause your modem to
connect at a speed lower than the line conditions permit. Just use
your modem: a new config won't improve its performance.
