I'm using Yahoo groups because I disconnected from Fidonet many years ago
at a time when Fido was beginning to slide and I was doing a lot of work
with clients with Internet access. Given my perception of Fidonet as
obsolescent (note that "obsolescent" is *not* the same as
"obsolete"!), I
have no compelling reason to set up to do Fidonet again - and especially
so if the echos of interest can be gated to the Internet.

When I first became a point, Fido was the only serious amateur network.
Since then, the Internet has grown to encompass amateur users as well as
the mostly governmental and educational entities who were the bulk of the
population when I started using it.

No... My current client has a really paranoid IT department who won't
allow outside mail. telnet, or SSH access. To be able to get to personal
mail (much of which is also for business), I installed the IMP package on
SNIPPETS. IMP is a mail interface that runs on a secure web server.
