I think there was something about loading SETVER.EXE after
entering the GeoWorks start up program into it. KERNEL.EXE
or LOADER.EXE come to mind. Look in the .bat file that
starts GeoWorks and see what the name is.
Change to the directory that SETVER.EXE is in (C:\DOS) and
type: SETVER KERNEL.EXE 3.30 or SETVER LOADER.EXE 3.30 or
SETVER GEOS.EXE 3.30, depending on which loads your version.
Note: it is NOT the geos.bat file, but the .exe that the
bat file loads.
The following is from one of the GeoWorks text files:
You may be able to use Ensemble 1.0 using the SETVER command.
At any DOS prompt, type the command:
SETVER GEOS.EXE 3.30
and press enter. You should get a warning message of some kind, and
then a message that the version as been successfully updated. Press
Ctrl-alt-del to re-boot your machine, and GeoWorks Ensemble should
run normally. You should not ever need to run the SETVER command
again with GEOS.EXE.
If, after running the SETVER command, you get the message "Bad
command or filename," then the SETVER program is either not present
on your system or it is not in your current path. Try switching to
your DOS directory and re-running the command. Type CD\DOS to change
to your DOS directory, and then type the SETVER command shown above.
If you still get the "Bad command or filename" message, you should
make sure you are typing the command correctly, and that you have MS-
DOS 5 installed. You can check your current DOS version by typing
the command VER and pressing enter.
If you get a message like "SETVER device is not loaded...," then you
need to make a small change in your CONFIG.SYS file to make SETVER
function correctly. You must insert the following, on a line all by
itself, in the CONFIG.SYS file:
DEVICE=C:\DOS\SETVER.EXE
You can edit your CONFIG.SYS file with any text editor, or you can
simply append the line to the end of CONFIG.SYS by typing this
command at the C:\> prompt:
ECHO DEVICE=C:\DOS\SETVER.EXE >> CONFIG.SYS
Don't put in any spaces except where shown.
