Hi Dan. Apologies for being late getting back... Is "sailing" an ok
excuse?
-> I'll try to remember to re-cross and save any responses.

Good idea, posting in the Science area.
Rode out another thunderstorm, at anchor, at about 3 a.m..
It was a comfort to know that I had a heavy duty copper wire running
from mast to centreboard (or the opposite direction, depending on the
theory).
Actually I was a little more concerned with the 10 or so minutes of very
high winds that came early in the storm. Had all three anchors out and
was still worried that I might break loose... All turned out ok.
My philosophy about lightning is that if I see it - I survived it!
And I saw lots.
About 20 minutes into the storm I decided to lower my retracted
centreboard, since my whole theory of lightning protection was based
upon having good contact between the centreboard and the water ;-)
I'm sure I had contact, even with it retracted, but the security blanket
effect was stronger with it down.
Happy sailing!
Murray
