DB> I had heard of Fagles translation; sounds promising. Given the
DB> example of the remake of the titanic movie, I look forward to
DB> a well done screenplay of Fagles' interpretation.

As the "Titanic" was an incredible shared synthetic experience-
  such an Iliad/
Odyssey type experience would be more difficult to achieve as it would
reach out over too many different contained experience-to-language
sensual constructs; the "Titanic", a single such construct
presentable in the English language. A really good Iliad/Odyssey
virtual presentation would be one hell-of-a challenge, even if the
technology was presently up to it. When I toured Sicily, I visited
many of the would-be toy Hellenic geographies, even being so naive as
to look for the "lady Scylla" in the Messina Straits. How do you
translate lump-in-throat into any definition of meaning that is
truer than an emotional experience? If we cannot translate the
 mind-meaning, presentation becomes touchy.

DB> What with the increasing capability of virtual reality,
DB> I hope to see a rendition of the tale with the landscape

With eternalish-life now a (very delicate) "possibility" perhaps
even the senses might be cross-posted through hi-fi controls to the
dream mechanism. There we might personally experience reasonable
actuality anywhere in history, circumstance or universe ....living
experientials. There is SO MUCH that is "technically" possible, from
traveling with Odysseus to actually being him (or even looking down
at it all from Olympus) ................we might even be, ourselves,
  budding gods!!!

DB> Likewise, Troy itself could be rendered. This leaves
DB> only the representations of the actors on the film, which
DB> again would be much improved over the last version which
DB> was just a vehicle for the hollywood stars of the 1950s.

If our time permits, I believe we are going to see some
     BIG much!

DB> Although, I spoze that it might do better as a DVD miniseries
DB> which could include multi-media annotation to try to communicate
DB> the wide range of subtlety in the characterization and culture.

Yes, a few DVDisms into a next week...... tomorrow.

Read the other day that the game industry has moved past the business
industry in expanding beyond the limits of graphic chips.

I'm often astounded at the extended sophistication of our senses
to pleasure the mind far beyond the simple hungers ....that such
an "old-ish" design had been future programed to correlate such
incredible input joy. It *do* add a dimension to tease evolution
.....that a few wonder-sparks could be so neatly tucked into an only
surviving mind. I believe it gives some credence to the view that
some Paley-ish "AGENDA" has been "quietly" tending the garden clock .

NOTE: I was gifted the very personal treasure to have stood on some
of the most magic soils of history. I do at times tap that
       enchantment-ish goad to "mind-taste" what I cannot know ...a
bit of reason...able phantasy....! Yes, as I get older, there
ARE some bits of me that bad mouth all- philosophy, religion
AND even logic . My second 50 years have not been as simple
       as my first 50.
