I suggest that HS computer courses concentrate on teaching kids how to
handle computer-related tasks that are typical for kids who go straight to
the workforce after graduation, or computer-related tasks that are needed by
college students not majoring in computer science. These "usage" tasks would
include:
1) How to use popular word-processing software at an intermediate
skill level.
2) How to use popular spreadsheet packages.
3) How to use popular database packages.

use canned software. That's what they need "computer literacy" in.
