all this reminds me of when ST:FC came out. I went opening night because a
mate had a spare ticket, Sunday night with the boys because I wasn't doing
anything else, and Monday night with the female because she wanted to see
exactly why she hadn't seen me all weekend (and, rather surprisingly, liked
it). People seemed to enjoy it more on the opening night, cheering the
holo-doctor, booing the Borg etc.

I then got dragged off to see it three weeks later when I went out for a
curry with a bunch from work.

But then, I also twice sat through the three-in-a-row special my local
Showcase did when the Special Edition Star Wars films came out, then bought
the wide-screen version of the videos and got given the normal version by my
gran for christmas.
