ST> There is a address book button in Word. Select Tools and then
ST> Envelopes. Its not on a toolbar but is a small button with the icon of
ST> a open book, just above the To/delivery address field in the Envelope
ST> box. If you click on the down arrow I think it give you the choice of
ST> the address book or the Contacts address' from the Schedule prgm.
RA> Whoops! You're absolutely right. The button is labeled "Insert
RA> Address", and I have already added it to the normal toolbar, but
RA> when I click either the book or the arrow part it just beeps at me.
RA> (I don't have either MMail or Schedule+ installed.
I double checked, and there is no button on the Envelope Dialog box in
Word95, and the options button refers to where the addresses appear on
the envelope. I'm afraid that there's no method of doing what I want in
this release, but I'm hopeful that something will be done later. Until
then, I'm going to keep using Word95 as my second WP program, and keep
WordPerfect 6.1 as my primary... mainly because it seems to be more
all-around useful than word is to me, and it seems to work better, as
long as I'm not importing from Access or Excell. (Both of which are
lightyears better than the competition. Access is a DB program with
power steering, and Excel has *Always* been tops!) I'm afraid the
development work on Word has just been somewhat less than excellent.
RA> So what you're telling me is that button cannot be directed to the
RA> Access Address Book database?
ST> I'm pretty new to Word myself Rich, and it will be a while before
ST> I learn it. But it looks like the Address Book icon is "insert _from_"
ST> not insert to. If I remember it right, if you type in a address in
ST> the "Deliver To" box and then save it, its saved in the address book
ST> and you can just click on it to insert it the next time. I assume you
ST> didn't save any of the addresses you've used and since you don't use
ST> the Contacts or MMail, its probably beeping because it can't find any
ST> address to let you select from. If you click the address book icon,
ST> mine gives me a list of names to select from. If I click the list's
ST> Cancel button I get a box that has a New (add) button at the bottom.
ST> Maybe try just adding all your names to the address book that way?
I don't use MMail because I'm on a standalone, and can't afford MSN,
and I've been using DayTimer since the first release, and Contacts is a
pale shadow in comparison. All of my business and personal stuff is
either in there or in Winfax Pro 4.0...
Now if someone wrote a conversion program that could read the DB's in
those programs, and others, and converted them into MS's, then I'd be
willing to swap, but if the only way is to punch them in by hand, never
mind!
