Hi Den (an any others who may have felt my absence):
Rumours to the contrary, I've not passed on. I was out of country and far
from any FIDO site. Internet, no problem, but FIDO....
Here's a little more on the report subtotaling problem:
The data table has the following fields (among others):
effective date
source
amount
cleared date
account
transaction code
I've given full names, rather than use the cryptic names forced by Xbase.
We allow the user to subtotal on any of up to 4 of these fields. They make
the selection in a popup from field. If the user selects 4 fields, no
problem.
The problem arises because the ONE report that we use has 4 data groupings
nd
subtotals for each. If the user selects less than 4, the subtotal lines
rint
without data. I can suppress the subtotal text which says something like:
99,999,999.99 <---- Subtotal for xyz
What I'm unable to do with the Report Writer is suppress the *@! blank
ne!
So I get a report that looks a bit like the following:
12/01/96 REPORT TITLE Page 1
22:00:00
Source Account Effective Date Amount Transaction Code
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Aces 012345 10/15/96 $ 100.00 123
Aces 012345 10/15/96 $ 100.00 309
Aces 012555 10/10/96 $ 500.00 123
--------------------------------------------------------------------
$ 700.00 <--- Subtotal for Aces
The problem is that there was a break because Account changed, but user
requested NO subtotal for the account break. She only wanted a subtotal
by Source, nothing else. But there is the hideous blank line anyway.
I'm interested in any ideas.
