I 'was' and am using QEDIT v3R. As I remember it programmers
were pleased that they could use QEDIT at work on *nix and at
home on DOS machines having the exact same interface. This
would indicate that both had similar origins (to me). 

If you read the history of Robelle you would find that this
company only supports HP MPE and HP-UX versions of QEDIT but
QEDIT was 15 years old in 1992. Semware claims 1985 as it's
'orgin' for QEDIT for DOS. It may be that Semware's DOS version
was licensed as a derived work from the HP QEDIT, I don't know.
I have no memory of any 'infringement'. I recall it as a simple
buyout. Possibly Semware bought the rights to the DOS version
while Robelle retained all rights to the original HP version? 

I can find no mention of any 'infringement' on the net.
