Hi Sandy.
Here's a somewhat late reply to your message...been away sailing!
-> People actually sail in fresh water? Fresh water is for drinking;
-> salt water is for sailing! :*) Just kidding, of course. I had my
-> boat in fresh water for 2 years. It caused me more headaches than
-> salt water ever did. The outboard's water pumping system gave out
-> (interior leaks), my wooden anchor davit dry rotted, causing the
-> anchor to fall off (while doing 6 knots, no less!); moisture formed
-> in the deck and later froze, causing structural problems. I'll take
-> the salt water and warm weather anytime over that!
Guess we gotta take what we can get. Personally I like the taste of
fresh water better :-)
I'm surprised that fresh water did more damage to your boat and motor
than salt water. Would have thought it would be the other way around.
Perhaps a touch of bias.... 8-D
One other consideration... from one less familiar with salt water
sailing ... I like the idea that in the fresh water lakes that I sail,
there's nothing "down there" that would enjoy having me for lunch! Can
you say that about salt water sailing ?
Fresh or salty... enjoy your sailing, Sandy.
