KJ>Okay, I have 2 different tape decks that I've done some recording on.
KJ>The first is a Sanyo it's about 13 years old. The second is a
KJ>Sony and it's a 1996 model. Now the Sony has automatic HxPro
KJ>for recording I recorded the same song twice on a metal tape.
KJ>Once on the sony and once on the sanyo. recording both with
KJ>Dolby C NR and on the type IV tape setting. To my surprise,
KJ>the sanyo recording had clearer highs. Not believing my ears I
KJ>tried the same test but instead of a metal tape I used a type
KJ>II. Still, the old Sanyo ruled supreme. The sony recording
KJ>has more high frequency noise, when apparently HxPro is
KJ>supposed to reduce high frequency noise and distortion. Is
KJ>anyone out there noticing anything similar or have any reasons?
KJ> I'd like to hear from you. Thanks!

Hello Kevin,
I have a '96 model Kenwood dual cassette deck with HxPro, dolby B,C,S. I have
not noticed any distortion with it. I have been plesently surprised at what
this deck will actually do. I have recorded very few things that you could
tell a difference between the source and the recording. I allways use type
II tapes because the metal did not sound any different and use Dolby S. I
have noticed a difference between TDK and Maxell takes though. The Maxells
seem to be a little bit more accurate in this deck. The TDKs seem to flake
out on some music in the high frequencies. I did try recording a couple of
tapes with Dolby C on and was not as impressed. Dolby C seemed to have more
noise and overall not as clean of a sound. You could definatly tell the
difference between the source and the tape if you listened closely.
Later
Jim
