subject: What means ^ !!

Hi Pete,
I am a new user to this area , but I would like to add a few comments to
the message I saw concerning the "^" in a message.
PG>What ASCII chart?
Just for your info Pete - The ASCII chart is the binary/hex/chr$ lookup
table of what the computer sends/receives when a character is
recognized.
Just for an example - A= 0100 0001 (binary) - 41 (hex) - 65(chr$)
                     Z= 0101 1010 (binary) - 5A (hex) - 90(chr$)
                     1= 0011 0001 (binary) - 31 (hex) - 49(chr$)
                     9= 0011 1001 (binary) - 39 (hex) - 57(chr$)
This may help you get started in the correct direction in that area.
PG>GD>^enter BegLine #12 * Place FormFeed at beginning of line
PG>I'm not sure what that means. Is "^enter" Ctrl-Enter?
Pete, in both of these examples the character "^" represents the press
of the control key. I quote it only for clarity.
An example od this would be ^m will usually mean a control m which is
equal to a carrage return and linefeed.
I realize it nay all look very strange - but if ya dig your DOS manual
and look under character sets. It may make a bit more sense.
Another way to see that stuff is to edit a file with QEdit and whilst in
the editor hit ESC to get a top menu bar - then Other for other stuff -
then T (ascii chart). If you then place the cursor under a screen
character - you will see it's codes - Try my Caps A, Z, 1, and 0 for
examples.
I think that you will catch on rather quickly.
Hope that this helps a bit and if ya desire a bit more discussion send a
reply.
Later--RON.
