The Word document is not infected but what a macro virus infection
does: The infected document is a template file with a auto open
marco that the template file has been renamed to .DOC; Word knows
the deference and opens and runs the macro virus infecting more
documents.
The marco can't be ran if the infected document is loaded into an
other program like WordPerfect. Now most if not all anti-virus
programs will detect the word and excel micro virii and will
disinfect the documents.
