I can accept that. But now you're using specific numbers that are nonsense. CO2 is now about 380 ppm of the atmosphere, whereas is it was about 280 ppm (estimated), before the industrial revolution. So CO2 has increased from 280 to 380 ppm (35% increase). The reason that a tiny proportion of CO2 is important is: - The PROPORTION is not relevant. - It is the TOTAL that matters. - The total is about 3E12 tons of CO2 (3 times 10 to the power 12, i.e. 3 million million tons). The large total amount of CO2 means that there is a very good chance that any infrared radiation leaving earth will hit a CO2 molecule. The impact means the radiation is absorbed and re-radiated in random directions. Because CO2 is rarer at higher altitudes, the net effect is that radiation that would have escaped to space is now redirected down to earth.
