Within linux create a crontab (man crontab) to check for that file exist and start hpt/lnx if it does. Maybe you don't need a flagfile. Just start hpt/lnx every xx minutes via cron. That would create logfile spam and a risk of running imp-toss and hpt/lnx at the same time. I don't know if that is critical or not.
