I had this happen on my old 80 Malibu. I by no means did a professional
fix for it at the time. I ended up going to Jo-Ann Fabric, picking out a
new cloth style and then using tacks and staples to get the new cloth back
on. It looked better than the sagging old beat up cloth, but was far from
perfect.

It might be a switch issue. For stuff like that, I normally go to the junk
yard. It would be worth a try and wouldn't cost much of anything. We have
many junk yards around town where you can walk around, find several similar
vehicles and grab what you want. It is sort of fun, too.

I still need to replace my fuel pump in my 2002 Monte Carlo. Only because
my fuel gauge float is messed up and normally not correct. Thankfully, I
don't have to drop the tank for this replacement as there is an access
panel under the carpet in the trunk.

I should be able to do that repair easier now that my Monte isn't my only
personal vehicle. It is nice being able to alternate between cars like
that.
