CC>Thanks for the tip. What a shame. I have a Hayes compatible modem. I
CC>threatened to make the seller take it back until he provided me with a
driver
CC>of some kind to make the modem autoanswer in fax mode. He gave me BitFax
from
CC>Cheyenne. I'm happy with it now. How come Hayes doesn't make a driver
for DOS
CC>for its DOS software as shareware. I know I would help distribute it to
OKC
CC>BBSs, because there is still a strong market for DOS faxmodem software,
whether
CC>the good people at Microsoft want to admit it or not. How's about shaking
CC>loose some shareware for the great masses who can't afford the humongous
outlay
CC>a Windows upgrade would entail?
CC>Thanking you for your time and attention...

Chris,
Yours is the first request I have seen for DOS fax software in about
a year, so I don't really think the demand is really there for DOS fax
software. I've seen a few shareware or freeware very simple DOS fax
utilities that will do the job, but there really isn't too much in the
way of any full featured DOS fax software packages that are up to date
with todays hardware and I don't expect that to change. A desktop
machine that will run Win95 (and run it well) can be had dirt cheap
nowadays. The only component that remains expensive would be a good
monitor.
