You can do I6 and I11 either during the call or after, before the

call there is no diagnostic data (well, there is data from previous

call unless the modem was reset).

The best way is to do it during the call, wait 1 sec. without

pressing any keys, press "+" 3 times and wait again. The modem

should say "OK", it is in command state now and while still

maintaining the connection it can accept your commands. Do ati6i11y11

(don't forget to have capture on) and you'll get a few screens of

text. Y11 works only during the connection and I got best results

during v34 or v34+, vfc for some reason doesn't check as many

frequencies as other modulations.

You can issue ati6i11 after the call but before resetting the modem.

I6 and I11 are self explanatory, Y11 gives the frequency

characteristics of your line (the number pairs are frequency in Hz

and level in -dB). After calling few places you can work out how

good/bad your line is.

Also you can ring David Drummond's board (3868 1597) and look for

"Interrogate modem" menu option (from memory it is on main menu).

Have your capture on as well, you'll get same data as from your

modem but from David's Courier. That'll give you some idea how other

modem see your line.

You can also use FOLDS (I think it is called TestFax and TestFaxPro

now) to get frequency and delay characteristics of the line and

modem in fax mode.

All of the above will give you a pretty good idea how your line

performs. Of course there is no guarantee that Telstra will take any

notice if you have problems...

MR> By say "happily connect half a minute later" do you mean
redial the

Exactly, I have 10 sec. redial pause in my software and second call

will connect fine.

MR> Same as here although I have left the X register at X4.

Lucky!

 TP>speaker or in your ears.

MR> Doubt if it would still be soundproof enough.

You never know. I know a company where they use masking tape and

superglue to fix things (instead of welding or bolting things

together). Usually the fix work much longer than expected, sometimes

forever - glad it isn't an airline company.

MR> Thanks for all the help.

No problem. Share your capture files with us.

Cheers,
