All of you should receive this, although it may be tomorrow before some of
you can post to the list or otherwise reach the SNIPPETS.ORG server. First
of all, I apologize for the inconvenience. For those who're interested,
I'll relate the saga...

Still with me? OK, here goes...

I had an out of town trip planned beginning Thursday a week ago (17-Jun),
returning the following Sunday. I had a lot of preparations to do Thursday,
but then I got a call from Jon, the SNIPPETS tech support guru, informing
me that the server had been down since that morning. Since I was within an
hour of leaving town at that time, I left the situation for Jon and Monny
(who owns the ISP) to work out.

Arriving back in late Sunday night, I checked my Earthlink email and found
that no progress had been made. So Monday morning, I went by Monny's place
and picked up the server. Jon got the server's problems fixed so I had
planned to reinstall it at Monny's on Tuesday.

This is where things get sticky... Like Jon, Monny is a friend and former
co-worker. Unfortunately, for as long as I've known him, Monny has been
battling cancer. Monday when I picked up the server, I noticed that he
looked particularly frail and his wife was acting quite protective of him.
Anyway, as it turned out, Monny went back into the hospital before I got
the server back over there and his entire business has been in turmoil with
him out - maybe permanently. Hopefully, things will settle down for both
him and his business, but coming on the heels of a major move the week
before, putting the server back there isn't a viable option right now.

Right now, I have the server parked at Jon's place with a reasonably
high-speed feed (but less than a full T1 as I had at Monny's). I updated
the DNS IP numbers this afternoon to point to Jon's network and it appears
that the DNS caches are gradually getting flushed so the whole world should
be able to find SNIPPETS.ORG by tomorrow.

The current plan is to leave the server at Jon's for the near term while I
decide on a new permanent parking place. When we do move it again to a
permanent home, we're planning on upgrading the hardware at the same time
- which should greatly improve reliability. As far as the permanent home
is concerned, I have several options, but having it Jon's right now means I
don't have to make any hasty commitments.

Bottom line: Apologies for the List and web site interruptions! Major
thanks to Jon for his supererogation in all this. Hopes and/or prayers for
Monny.

Stay tuned...
