subject: Using What Works

Hi Bob,

BK> Soufan was the Senate testimony. Kririakou was the fellow who
BK> wasn't there, he was the TV interview.

YEp, thought so, wasn't sure at the time I wrote that.

RW> OF course they are. Note sOufan's example of utilizing the
RW> subject's nickname which his mother used to refer to him.

BK> Outsmarting him, not beating him.

YEp, and by outsmarting him you end up "beating" him,
beating him at the game instead of physically and getting
nothing for your troubles except one ticked off prisoner.

RW> THe thing is, these folks are prepared for that, as soufan
RW> notes. THey know that we're not going to drop the illusion
RW> of humane treatment, you might get bounced off a wall a few

BK> Actually, I suspect he was wrong about that. I would bet some of

PRobably so in some cases. IF you've got a boat handy
you've got a perfect way to dispose of the corpse Dead men tell
no tales, and a dead body that can't be found and
examined, with no records of its custody isn't a dead body.
We'll never know about those.

RW> aboveboard. IN fact, I figured he might be moving some hot
RW> merchandise through his shop. wHen the two gendarmes came
RW> to my door to ask me questions cop #1 played bad cop, "we'll
BK> ...
RW> so here comes his buddy, we've arleady changed venue to the
RW> federal courthouse downtown, as this is a federal and local
RW> thing, and guy comes in to talk with me. NOw the funny
RW> thing is I ran the snack bar in the basement for a couple
RW> months for the guy managed the place when he was out sick.
RW> so here comes MR. FEd and he does the "hey how ya doin'
RW> buddy" thing, "ain't seen you since I used to come in to
RW> get a sandwich coffee and pack of WInstons ... "

RW> RIght away, I'm willing to talk. THIs dude's telling me we
RW> can clear this right up, he talks to me a bit with one of
RW> the cops who wasn't an a{at}{at}{at} about the whole thing and I
RW> give him what I think I know but couldn't prove, get my hand
RW> shook and a ride home. Right away when I get home, I call

BK> And that's how it works.

OF course it is. FIrst guy that comes to my door's gotta be an anal
orifice. HEck, I'm a young man with a wife and baby to feed, and what I
suspect don't have jack to do with it,
I"m gonna protect my boss first, especially when the guy's
playing threats. Had he knocked on my door, accepted a cup
of coffee, let me get my brain together (I'd played a show
the night before) and talked let's make a deal I"d have
probably given him chapter and verse, what I knew, or
thought I knew. bUt, he's a jerk, so I said screw ya buddy, better
mirandize me, I want a lawyer, here's your one finger salute, nothing to
say.

the fed I used to sell lunch to otoh told me he could
probably get things taken care of where I"d never have to
walk up there and talk to the prosecutor and testify, yada
yada. wHen he put it that way I decided to explain what I
knew about late night deliveries of used electronic
equipment that hadn't been there when I arrived at work the
day before. Mr. hardcore small town detective was *not*
happy with how that one went down, especially hwen he had to give me a ride
back to my place > Only thing he did
while giving me the ride 30 miles home was ask me how I knew this fbi dude,
and I explained to him about the lunch
counter, etc. tHen I told him that the fed in question took me out to a
private shooting range to play with guns for
awhile one fine summer afternoon. sMall town detective
choked on that one all the rest of the way home and didn't
say another word.

Regards,
           Richard
