My grandparents came to this country with nothing except two babies and a
few household possessions. Their children (Three more were born on this
side of the Atlantic) all made it comfortably into the middle class,
although only one completed a college education. They didn't know anyone
influential, on the contrary they had to fight for every bit of economic
progress since in those days Jews were widely discriminated against. What
they did have was a willingness to work hard and be responsible about the
money they earned.
