I don't think that's a proper use of the term: habituation is more like it, I
believe. Although either can lead to abuse, they are distinctly different.
People will often say that they are "addicted" to coffee, bagels, chewing
gum, bottled water, etc. They usually mean that these things are emotionally
important to them.
People here are rather sensitive to this whole issue, because they get put on
the defensive by the uninformed who think it is morally wrong to "put kids on
drugs to make them behave."
