TE> Sorry to delete the rest of your post, it was well written.
TE> What has surprised me is the depth of the media and public
TE> reaction. Why now? Why this? We all know that Clinton
TE> has done as much or worse in the past. Was this simply the
TE> last straw or does the *perceived* vulnerability (youth) of
TE> the girl have a bearing?
RP> One characterization I've read said pressure has been
RP> building behind the dam for a very long time, and the dam
RP> finally burst. I think that's part of it. Everybody
RP> recognized Dufus at the very least shades the truth, but
RP> this time, he's been shown to very likely have outright
RP> lied and encouraged others to do likewise in a legal
RP> proceeding while sitting in the presidency, and the dam
RP> flat couldn't hold any longer.
Don't ignore the 1992 60 Minutes interview in which he not
only implicitly denied the Gennifer Flowers affair, but
ALSO implicitly promised the American people that any such
problems were *behind* him and that those marital problems
were resolved.
I think many of the American people took him at his word.
Given that there is now credible evidence that he not only
has broken that promise, but has also lied about the
Flowers affair, the outrage of those who trusted him may be
sufficient to end his Presidency.
RP> The age of Monica Lewinski at the time has a bearing too.
RP> That hits pretty close to home with folks like Cokie
RP> Roberts. As has been said, interns are somebody's kids, and
RP> permissive popular culture or no, interns are absolutely
RP> out of bounds for *any* politician. No one knows better
RP> than Washingtonites about the attractiveness of power and
RP> the vulnerability to it of somebody Monica's age, despite
RP> her being legally an adult.
Not to mention that the relationship of mentor-student
carries serioues ethical obligations which the Dufus has
appaarently blithely ignored.
TE> I was listening to one talking head, on TV no less, dig up
TE> Clinton's lies about his draft notice and the "Col. Holmes"
TE> letter as examples of his lack of veracity. They seem to be
TE> pulling out all the stops this time.
RP> Yup. With this clear indication of lying on both Dufus'
RP> part and on the part of someone close to him, all the
RP> previous charges now look a lot more credible to them, and
RP> denials by everybody involved are suspect.
Particularly when the story was discovered and researched
by NEWSWEEK - not the AMERICAN SPECTATOR, WASHINGTON TIMES
or NEW YORK POST.
RP> It's worth noting that had the Whitewater investigation not
RP> been ongoing, we likely wouldn't be seeing any of this now.
RP> Same goes for the Paula Jones suit.
Just think - had the Dufus settled the suit, there wouldn't
*be* any perjured affidavit by Monica Lewinsky.
RP> What's really fun about it though is there *still* wouldn't
RP> be knowledge of it had not Uncle Bob called Tripp a liar.
RP> What was that about a woman scorned?
That tends to suprise those who regard women as objects.
TE> The fun part is that the Republicans don't have to do a
TE> thing, they only need to sit back and enjoy the show. Every
TE> hour, it seems, the revelations get more and more damaging
 TE> to the Dufus.
RP> They sure do, and now there's reports of White House
RP> witnesses to intimacy between Dufus and Monica.
Yeah, but don't count on that witness testifying - several
reports suggest that said witness was the First Frump.
TE> The last report I heard said he was staying out of sight in
TE> the White House. The thought occurred to me that maybe
TE> Hillary has been bouncing lamps off his head again. ::
 TE> chuckle ::
RP> With all the practice she's had, I wonder what speed one of
RP> those ashtrays would clock on radar.
Off the scale. You'll have to judge by the blue shift. In
this case we probably have a red ashtray that looks green.
::snicker::
