KJ-> First thing, mop all your floors till you could eat off
KJ-> them, all the
KJ-> way to the cage that's being bothered. Do it twice--first
KJ-> time, just use
KJ-> soap; second time, use a disinfectant. You want to
KJ-> eliminate any traces
KJ-> of the smell markers the ants are leaving to mark the trail
KJ-> to the
KJ-> bird's cage.
Wow!  I had no idea that ants had smell markers!  I always use Lysol 
disinfectant when I mop my floors anyways.....Lysol is okay to use?  Or 
should I use something else?
KJ-> Then go get some Boric Acid powder at the local drugstore.
KJ-> Sprinkle it
KJ-> liberally on the floor in the places where you see the ants
KJ-> entering the
KJ-> house; make a solid barrier with no gaps. (To find those
KJ-> spots, follow
KJ-> the trail of ants backwards from the cage). Boric acid is a
KJ-> dessicant,
KJ-> or drying agent. It will dry out the ants as they cross the
KJ-> powder, and
KJ-> they won't be able to get into the house. It's not
KJ-> *intensely* toxic to
KJ-> the birds, but you should try to keep them out of the stuff
KJ-> on the
KJ-> floor, as it can be irritating to the eyes and skin. Try to
KJ-> keep it away
KJ-> from flapping wings so it doesn't get blown around.
I didn't realize I could use Boric Acid.  I just figured that it would 
automatically hurt the birds.  Does it have a smell to it?  Also, what do I 
do with the piece of carpeting that I have in from of the TV?
KJ-> Another thing you can do is put down those round can-like
KJ-> ant traps near
KJ-> the entry points. The ants will go THERE instead of to the
KJ-> cage
KJ-> (stronger smelling bait). The stuff in the traps gets
KJ-> carried back to
KJ-> the nest by the worker ants, and kills the egg-layers and
KJ-> adults there.
KJ-> The stuff in these things IS toxic--do NOT let the birds
KJ-> get down on the
KJ-> floor and play with the ant traps.
Cool!  I bought some of them, hoping they would work!  I have them hidden 
behind and under heavy furniture that the birds can not get to.
KJ-> I did all this when I had an ant problem a few years ago,
KJ-> and once I had
KJ-> put down the powder/traps near the door, I never saw
KJ-> another ant get
KJ-> past the door. Good luck!
