The Avtek Flashmodemm is a re-badged Motorola Lifestyle. For best results I use:

AT&R0%R2*TH1\V4\X1

&R0 for bidirectional hardware flow control
%R2 retrain on medium Bit Error Rate
*TH1 train on medium Bit Error Rate
\V4 report full connect speed and protocols
\X1 pass through X-ON/X-OFF

Check the help command AT$H for more details, as there are a couple of
other commands to support fast V.42 LAPM detection and fast training that
may need changing if you're experiencing problems.
