Jim, the active ingredient of asprin was a commonly prescribed pain reliever
in Native American Pharmacology. It's the bark of the Birch tree I believe.
Quinine was also commonly used to control women's menstrul cramps by NA
hamen
before the coming of the white man, and manufactured purification by the
modern drug companies.
Jack Weatherford's book "Indian Givers" highlights many of the native plants
that were used for healing before the coming of the europeans.
