That's a two way street Tom. I live very close to a heavily used, and I
understand quite nice, trail on the north side of Grapevine Lake in the DFW
area. Because of construction, I ride across the dam to the south side of
the lake almost daily. It used to be that if you saw a bike rack on a
vehicle, you could pretty much count on some courtesy. They'd slow down and
give you some room. (BTW, the speed limit on the dam is 35mph.) I've
learned that that is not the case. Now I have to look to see if the bikes
have drop bars or not. If not, I can count on nothing. The odds seem to be
about the same as any other car that they won't scoot by at 55 mph 14 inches
off my handlebars. Do they not think we should be on their road? Heck,
sometimes they even honk at me or wave with a one finger salute.
I think we should mutually respect each other.
