Yeppers.  Your quote is spot on as to what I see in both the ascii and ansi
versions, albiet the ansi version is way prettier.  I think I might know what
the problem is and if I am on the right track then ansification of msg's isn't
going to happen given the lack of standardization.  This has about as much
chance of success as getting rid of the 2 digit year idiocy in msg headers.
