you're right... imp-mail calls hpt/dos to do the final packing... i assume
that it also calls it for the unpacking...

TBH, if the BBS uses JAM bases i don't know why imp-mail has to be used at
all... this is really starting to sound like the old "double
toss" stuff we had to do with WWIV and other similar BBSes before they
had FTN compliant tossers... the "double toss" starts off tossing
to MSG and then their proprietary tosser would import the MSGs into their
proprietary message base format...
