That is correct-- his personal contributions. Now, his *clients* have
contributed to Dems, which is what the Republicans are spinning into
"Abramoff and clients" in an effort to spread the wealth, so to
speak. The problem here is less contributions than out-and-out quid pro quo
bribes.
One thing I've read about the whole "K Street Project" is that
where lobbyists used to hedge their bets by donating both ways, tipped
toward the party in power, now "The Hammer" et al were enforcing
Republican-only donations, favors, and hirings.
The Dems are nowhere near as cohesive. Will Rogers said it in the
20's/30's: "I don't belong to any organized political party: I'm a
Democrat."
