Well, I'm stunned.
I remember way back about 15 years ago when I heard _The Beatles_ (aka
White Album) for the first time. I didn't much care for it, really, so
I wasn't much surprised when I heard that critics didn't much care for
it or that even George Martin felt that one single album of the best
from those sessions would've been better.
I bought this album on CD a couple of days ago. It's the first time
I've heard the whole thing for at least 15 years and I've got to say
that I'm stunned. This album is wonderful. Dare I say it, but I'd even
say that I like this album over any other Beatle album. Maybe this is
just because I haven't been over-exposed to these songs like other
Beatle songs.
What I like so much about this is the wide range of styles and ups and
downs. It's the most Progressive of any of their albums, too. A couple
of the songs are obvious King Crimson influences. The only song that I
could really do without is "Revolution 9." It would be a perfect bonus
track had the album been released in the 90s. The thing isn't bad, but
it's not really a song -- there's no reason to it, like that one
tape-effects song on the 5uu's _Hunger's Teeth_ album.
What's the consensus on this echo about this album, anyway?
