At the moment my swap is /sda2 / is /sda1 and other storage is /sda3.
I've always had swap in the middle of the drive but I think it's fine

That's a good strategy, I did mine the same when I took it for a run.

Quite possible, but I don't think I would do it that way. The conf
files in /home may be different in some small ways. The binaries in
/usr/(s)bin could depend on /libs too. It may work to some degree but
create cranky problems in other ways.

/opt & /usr/local could be shared though if your careful (who built
what where etc.).

Westbank is just up the road from me here, yep we are very careful
with fire here, it's so dry in the summer. I remember the fires in
Alberta too.. it was smoky here in town but there were no fires in
the area at the time. Best we could figure was that the smoke was
coming from the fires in Alberta.
