While writing to disk with an engraving tool, Chris went on about Chat to

LightChat covers most of those things you're after. I can't let you Freq it
at the moment as my system is misbehaving after a major crash, and F'requing
isn't working at the moment (it may, but I doubt that I have the archive for
LC here).
I find it quite a good program to use, and you can configure the ANSI screens
and layout for 3 of the 4 chatmodes. It also works like a text editor, you
can scroll back through the window, and it actually inserts text instead of
overwriting. Oh, it also has those auto-replace macros.
If you do want it, and can't find it locally or on the net, I'll put it on
hold for you.
