Hi Tom, as you were just saying about Censorship....
TR> Let's try a humorous example first and see if it fits your
TR> standard. You receive a brochure labeled, "Cannibal Weekend for two,
TR> make your reservations early and eat the person of your choice."
TR> "Please see the attached photos of people who will be eaten this
TR> weekend and make a carefull selection." I wonder if advertising of
TR> this nature would represent a clear and present immediate danger for
TR> those who are scheduled to be eaten. Some might think this is an
TR> outlandish example, but I bet we could find some perverts who would
TR> pay for this weekend. They might call the spot "Dammer's Getaway."
TR>
As long as the eaters and eatees were all consenting adults, would you
have a problem with it? Perhaps the eatees are using this as a form of
suicide and it fits their religion.
TR> Let's take a couple of other examples and see if they work. How
TR> about the open commercial availability of kiddy porn? Could the
TR> demand for such material cause the victimization of children and
TR> represent a clear and present immediate danger?
I don't consider children (even though they are 24 years old per HCI)
to be consenting adults. The recruiting, filming and distribution
would all have to be a crime.
TR> How about the open
TR> commercial availability of " snuff films?" Same question.
More difficult. One would assume that at least one of the
participants was not a consenter.
TR> Using your standard, the information about how to poison a public
TR> or private water supply would obviously represent a clear and
TR> present immediate danger, so this information would be censored and
TR> be illegal.
No, the placement of it at the local watering hole would be, IMHO.
