I read it in an article in the Los Angeles Daily News, the day after the
original story broke.  Don't know if it's still on their website...
articles they reprint from elsewhere such as AP usually are not on the
site.  The quotes were from actual servicemen in the field, not generals. 
One said something to the effect that he really did not want to be slowed
down by the additional armor and "When it's your time, it's your
time."
