One of my neighbors died in Feb and left a parking lot full of cars
behind. The day that I saw a crowd gathered in his driveway, I went to
investigate why. I happened to engage a friend of the family who mentioned
that all of those vehicles would be up for sale, as soon as the probate
court finished with the estate.

I spoke to him about the 1989 GMC Suburban that 'ole Les' (62yo) recently
had painted. Its a silvery Gray with a black full-length body insert. It
took some getting used to when it was fresh, but it grows on you after a
while. In fact, a week or so before ole Les died, I mentioned that to him.
He was greatful that I had changed my mind since I had told him he was
wasting his time and money painting such an old pile of iron.

Weekend after weekend, Les's widow would travel from Houston to stay in
Les's house and clean out the piles of air-guns, guns, tools and various
other things too numerous to mention here. Then leave here for Houston
on Sunday noon. IMO, Les was a hermit sort of guy with a lot of hobbies
and money enough to keep him in a generous supply of hobby equipment. I
say hermit because he claimed that his wife had moved to Houston for
gainful employment, but I suspect that they didn't get along very well. He
was an abrasive sort of guy, from what I could determine by observation.

Weekend before last, his widow came by to say that the GMC was now
un-encumbered by the court and told me that she was giving me 1st choice
and that she'd take $2500 obo for the GMC. I test drove it and it ran
well, rode well and it had all of the immenities for a 'tow vehicle' for
my car trailer and race-car. On top of it being a low mileage burb at 98k,
it had been well taken care of through a family friend who has a repair
shop on the other side of town. Everything is intact and everything works,
nothing wrong with it, except for a few minor things that only Les would
have had done his way. I offered the widow $2200 for it and she told me
that was too much and she'd take $2k, no more. OK...fine with me.

Last weekend I took delivery and have spent the interim going over the
vehicle, noting things that need to be changed to my satisfaction. The
first thing I did on Monday was to transfer title to the vehicle in my
name. I had two keys made for the tailgate window (which are different
than the round head key that works everything else). I found two keys in
the console that were a mystery, as they didn't fit anything I could find.

Then I found a locking pin in the receiver hitch, holding a third brake
light in place. The keys fit that pin and so, all is well.

It has a Kenwood AM/FM/Stereo/CD player with a removable faceplate,
something that took me a while to figure out before reading the owners
manual, which I eventually found in the glove compartment. 8^)

Will have to ask her if they found a remote control for that radio, since
it would be easier to use than trying to figure out what button to push
for the many features the radio has. The buttons are pretty much out of
site, as the radio is the lowest thing in the dash. She also mentioned
that you had to turn off the radio when you parked it, because it wasn't
tied into the on/off accessory of the ignition switch. She also mentioned
that ole Les would remove the faceplate when he parked it. I found the
reason for his madness, as when you remove the faceplate, the radio shuts
off, then when you reinstall it, the radio is on. No need to find that
on/off switch in the dark and the radio stays in the last mode that it was
being used.

Still have to add it to my insurance policy and change my homeowner's
insurance at the same time.
