Perhaps tighter tolerances, but not Leo's original vision. He designed the
three-bolt neck for acoustics, where the neck heel ran from the 12th or 14th
fret to the top. He told CBS that the electric necks didn't have enough
contact area for a stable 3-bolt system. As usual, they ignored him.
I don't think the G&Ls have any more neck/pocket contact area (maybe 1/4" or
so), but the bolts are spaced farther apart.
