There are Three things imporatnt in selecting Antennas. The Basic
design, Height above ground, and Antenna lead Losses..
for FM reception typicaly a simple Dipole Antenna cut for the FM band is
quite good. While it is slightly directional it dosne't need a Ground
plane like a vertical antenna.
Height is basicly the Higher the beter but you reach a point of
deminished capability becasue of the lead in Losses.
On the Cable avoid RG 8 like the plague. It has terrable losses at FM
and higher frequencies except fro very short lengths. Line a couple of
feet!! I mysewlf recommend Quad Shield RG-59 for Recieve only uses. It
is Avaiable at your Friendly Radio Shack store and is a perfect
comprimise between Cost and Losses.
