I know the stuff *we* had was vintage, to say the least.  It had a pocket
for a front and back steel plate, about maybe 10" square.  Of course,
that was just for immediate reaction force stuff, not as who should say
combat (and we still had M-14s, too).  That was prior to 1997, when I got
out.
