That might be part of it but mostly it is one of those "because it's there"
type of dealies.  The fact that I can make it sing tunes of my own making
appeals to me.  I've seen evidence of java based fidonet thingies from Russia
and in comparison my bashist evil, demented plan might flank it simply because
it's a modern twist on a very outdated theme ... that works.
