subject: ATM First questions on 6 inch mirror

I'll start by saying thanks for all the help that I have received just
lurking on this list for quite awhile.

I am building my first telescope including grinding the 6 inch F8 mirror. I
have been polishing for between 11 and 12 hours now and the surface is
quite smooth. A laser pointer will not reflect off the surface so I decided
it was time to see how I have done.

I built the tester and mirror stands described on the stellfane pages and
printed out a ronchi grating on some transparency film. You can see the
results at:

TDE? Am I interpreting this correctly? How do I proceed?

I think that my pitch lap is VERY HARD. I remade the lap prior to the last
3-4 hours of polishing and it has not deformed much at all (the room was
quite cold). Do I need a softer lap?

Thanks in advance for any help that you can give.
